laundry detergent

I have tried MANY different types of detergent (store bought & homemade). I know this is also the most popular thing for people to start making. Its easy, cost effective and you can make sure you are getting good ingredients. Below are lists of what I have tried and what I use and found to work! My test if they work is if my youngest gets a rash all over his torso. He has very sensitive skin and reacts quite easily.

Detergents I have Bought

Trader Joes

Seventh Generation

Ecos

Mrs. Myers

Tide

Arm & Hammer

What I Recommend

Norwex– This is what we use in our house

Honest Company

Homemade Laundry Detergent

– When making homemade laundry detergent make sure to use Castile Soap (Dr.Bronners) and NOT Fels Naptha. Fels Naptha is full of chemicals that is just as bad as other detergents

– Do not use Borax. There is some controversy whether or not Borax is bad. I would rather not risk it and be on the safe side

Why Fabric Softener is bad

Below shows why so many detergents are not safe or good for you. What doesn’t dissolve in water, doesn’t in your clothes and thus ends up on your skin. Check out the comparison pictures. The Homemade Detergent is made with Fels Naptha. I have not done this comparison with Honest Company or the Borax free Homemade Detergent. Needless to say regular detergent such as Tide is far worse.
